Children of Bodom - Follow The Reaper

After reading reviews of this CD, I decided I was going to buy it, even without actually having heard any music by these guys. Some of you are thinking “Wow, that’s dumb”, but I found some of my favorite CDs this way. Rarely am I disappointed. The best way I can think of to describe this CD is video game metal. Let me explain. The metal part is obvious, but if you listen to this, you hear the high guitars and they keyboards. They reminded me of old RPGs and the Ninja Gaiden games. Maybe I’m just dumb…

The lyrics are nothing special. Boring metal lyrics: “Running under the cover of moonlight shadow death row. At the night we’re running wild with no hope for tomorrow… No tomorrow!!!”. Not all of it is that generic, but most of it is.

The beauty of this CD is not in the lyrics, but in the music itself! It manages to sound futuristic as well as classic at the same time. The raspy vocals work well with the music, sounding like Marilyn Manson or Psy Coma (Kovenant) at their best. Most of the songs sound pretty much the same, which isn’t a bad thing because they are not bad songs.

This new CD sounds a lot like the older stuff, only with more keyboards.

I like this CD. I like it a lot.
