System of a Down - Toxicity
I like this CD more than
I like the first one. It is heavier, more diverse, more melodic and more
“epileptic” than the self-titled. All the songs are pretty good.
Everyone has been talking this CD lately. Everyone has it in their CD
players when I ask what they are listening to. Even the people that
don’t have the CD are like “I love that song Chop Suey”,
even my own mother, and she hates most of the stuff that I listen to.
Prison Song is great, Needles is great, Deer
Dance is great, Jet Pilot is great… well, you get the
picture.
The lyrics are all thoughtful, not just mindless drivel that is
only in the song because it rhymes, like most of the newer bands are
putting out. Prison song makes a good point, although nothing can be
done about it unless we (the listeners) take it upon ourselves to start
voting and caring about our government, but that is another rant
altogether.
Musically and vocally, this CD amazes me. I think that Daron
Malakian was given more song writing freedom than he was on the first
CD. I also liked the few places where he did some vocals. That leads me
to my next point; Serj and Daron are one of the best vocal teams I have
ever heard! Serj has that voice that is just annoying enough to get into
you but not enough to really bother you. I love it!
Daron’s voice perfectly counters Serj’s.
Out of all the songs, my personal favorite is Bounce,
followed by Psycho and Prison Song. Most people I have
talked to have liked Forest and ATWA more. If you are into nu-metal, alternative, punk, real metal, or any kind of rock at all, buying this CD would not be a mistake. Razor_Mag\\christian_soldier_666
